

Curatorial Narrative The study by Eugne Devria, “Mme Victor Hugo endormant l’un de ses enfants (Franois-Victor) tude pour Le Coin du feu”, dated 1828, situates itself within the nascent Victorian era, a time when traditional techniques were being refined and elevated. Devria’s brushwork is characterized by its soft, almost hushed quality, as if to convey the quiet intimacy of the domestic scene unfolding before us.
